Niche Site Case study: Content and Links for Amazon Affiliate Sites

THIS ARTICLE MAY CONTAIN COMPENSATED LINKS. PLEASE READ DISCLAIMER FOR MORE INFO.

I have been working hard on my Amazon affiliate sites and my PBN. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day as I struggle to complete as much as I would like. I have been concentrating on building up the content on the sites and links.

If you haven’t read my first article in this case study, my first three Amazon affiliate sites, read that first.

Link building

This is the part that bothers me the most. Best practise in this area changes all the time and it is hard to find up to date articles about how others build links, and the fact is, by the time people use a link building strategy to rank a site, that strategy could be out of date. It is hard to keep up with google.

I keep flip flopping between whether to just use PBN links or to build other types as well. The problem is that my only other link building ideas are ways that are not effective and could damage the sites with Google. I am hoping PBN links will be enough along with some possible social bookmarking. I also hope to create some link bait for at least my main site. I also want to try making youtube videos to see if that helps. I see so many high ranking youtube videos, it seems that they might!

PBN

I am still building up my PBN and I have started linking gradually to my money sites with it. While I have still been focusing my efforts on building up the content on the affiliate sites, I have been only building about two to three links a week to my Amazon affiliates sites.

I have bought a couple of more expired domains and am slowly adding to the PBN this way. I was excited when Jon at Authority Website Income announced that he was opening up more spots soon on his PBN service – he provides a 5 site PBN on expired domains for only $650 which I think is great value. I am waiting for that to happen and I will buy 5.

I also bought The HOTH platinum package. This is an 8 site PBN built on free blog sites such as wordpress.com. They then link build to these sites. I figured this would be a good way to diversify my PBN. I think this is excellent value at only $250, but the quality of the links on the blogs is bad. Talk about link stuffing! I spent a day cleaning up all the links and I want to clean up the sites a bit too. Most of them do not even have a site name, and the pages are named things like “page 1”. The articles are not great quality either, and I have found once I removed the rubbish, they are barely long enough.

In saying all of that, I still would buy them again and I would still recommend them. Why? At only $32 a site, they are still crazy good value. I bought them to link to my PBN to build authority on a couple of those sites, and I think they will do a good job for that. I would not use them to link to money sites. Besides which, it has a cool name! I like their branding 🙂

Site 1: 5,000 monthly searches, KC: 34

Since my last update, I have added an article and done some more link building.

Site 2: 1,900 monthly searches, KC:28

I have outsourced some article and review writing for this. I am slowly building some links. I paid someone to do some social bookmarking.

Site 3: Main keyword (for now) 4,400 searches, KC: 26

Most my effort has been going here, as I feel like it has the most potential. I want this to be a large authority site. I have about 10 articles up already and a good content plan based on my keyword research. I have just started building links to it on my PBN. I am hoping to use a quiz to help build some traffic and links to it. I want to try some outsourcing for this site too.

Next steps?

I am prioritising more content on sites 2 and 3 while I slowly link build. I want to work on the quiz for Site 3 and some infographics for all three sites.

I need to put some time into trying to meet others that do similar things to this. I tried finding facebook groups like what I am in for travel blogging but only came across one. I can see many benefits to joining a community of people who work on niche sites, especially when it comes to link building. I would love to meet some people who would like to link swap. If anyone reading this has a PBN, I would love to hear from you!
